Easily Manage Content and Processes

With SharePoint 2007 you can streamline the everyday business processes that put a drain on productivity. By using electronic forms and out-of-the-box workflow processes you can initiate, track, and participate via web applications, email, or standard office applications. And you can store and organize all business documents and content in one central location, giving users a consistent mechanism to navigate and find relevant information.

SharePoint 2007 allows users to save a local copy that is associated with the SharePoint site in a SharePoint Drafts folder inside My Documents. When the user connects with the network and opens the edited copy in the SharePoint Drafts folder, it asks whether to synch it back to the site.

Within an Exchange 2007 environment users can connect their SharePoint lists and libraries to Outlook. If you’re looking for an offline access solution, SharePoint and Outlook Anywhere beat standard file shares—hands down. Also, workflows can be added to any document repository as well as retention polices to manage compliance.

Internal and External Collaboration. Simplified.

SharePoint 2007 search isn’t just for SharePoint sites. Portal searches are now able to expose Exchange content, file share, and websites. You can also leverage the Business Data Catalog (BDC) for added functionality to retrieve information from Siebel and SAP and return those results as a SharePoint list.

SharePoint 2007 out-of-the-box workflows allow users to route documents for approval or feedback without having to manage emails and follow up flags. An email with a hyperlink will be generated informing users of tasks assigned to them.

For users on the road, each SharePoint 2007 site has a mobile view. Simply typing /m after the URL will present the device-enabled content.

Wikis and blogs are available in SharePoint 2007 and are another approach to collaboration through “brainstorming” and relaxed content publishing. Though not the most powerful component, they do have their place and since they are supported, you don’t have to incorporate yet another system.

Out-of-the-Box Business Intelligence

SharePoint 2007 allows users to create live, interactive business intelligence (BI) portals. These portals assemble and display business information from disparate sources by using integrated BI capabilities such as dashboards, web parts, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business data connectivity technologies. And with SQL Server Reporting Services (SRS), users can also publish reports that are consumed through simple SharePoint Web Parts.

In conclusion, SharePoint 2007 enables employees to share knowledge, find information, and collaborate more easily and more securely within your organization. With organization-wide access to both structured and unstructured information across disparate systems, SharePoint 2007 connects people with information and expertise—all with a simple, familiar, and consistent user experience.
